I have little clue on the PPA policies for keeping old versions. Building from source is probably the safest way to get a specific version on a specific OS version.
I can confirm, unfortunately, that pyswip still has this problem (with swipl 9.0.4). Happily this still fixes the issue!
You can also consider the new Janus Python interface. It has a lot more features. Setting it up can cause problems, mostly because the C API of Python differs between even point releases On Windows there is the
python3.dll
that hides this if you are happy to stick with an older API, but other OSes do not provide this library (at least I didn’t find any).
