Library(persistency) and Microsoft Defender

When using library(persistency) a file will be created of multiple assert statements.

In converting a large XML file (6.5 GB) (175,351,738 lines) to facts on Windows, Microsoft Defender CPU usage goes up nearly as much as the CPU usage of SWI-Prolog.

If you trust what you put into the file then Windows Defender can be set to exclude based on

  • File
  • Folder
  • File type
  • Process

Add an exclusion to Windows Security

If Windows Search in enabled it too will use an inordinate amount of CPU, so disable Windows Search from the Services dialog.

The noted 6.5 GB file is the current (06/16/2022) UniProt file which can be downloaded from here.
